Special Events

In addition to a rich history of service to the community through social justice, First Trinity is a church that actively participates in the surrounding neighborhood and across the city by offering concerts, discussion series and other special events.

Concerts: Past concerts arranged have featured arias, spirituals, folk, Gospel music, and much more.

Forums: We have also offered such special events as a screening of An Inconvenient Truth, Blessing of the Animals, a mayoral candidate Breakfast in 2006, 3-night forum on Religion and Politics (Fall of 2004, just prior to the presidential election) and discussions on topics such as the relevance of the 10 Commandments today.

Current and Upcoming Events

On Trinity Sunday, May 18, during the 1:00 service, the combined choirs of First Trinity Lutheran and First Congregational churches presented J. S. Bach's Cantata 78, Jesu, der du meine Seele, together with soloists and chamber orchestra. This piece, widely considered one of Bach's masterpieces, features a profound opening chorus followed by a duet for soprano and alto and arias for tenor and bass in markedly contrasting styles, and ends with a chorale, all presenting the triumph of Christ's redemptive love over the forces of evil and despair. All are welcome!

Refresh your spirit at the once-monthly Taizé service, now hosted by First Trinity.
Join us next the second Sundy of the month at 6:00 p.m., for reflective worship followed by a potluck meal. The Taizé service and potluck (different food theme each month) will be held here the second Sunday of each month.

Weekly soup supper, evening prayers, and Bible study on Thursday evenings at 6 pm.
On July 15th @ 7 pm, HEAR US OUT! 2008, the 5th Annual Free Minds Poetry Reading of DC Jail's Young Poets will be held at the Gala Theatre at Tivoli Square. more info at www.freemindsbookclub.org.
