Fair Trade/ Gifts of Hope
Gifts of Hope continue to be available until Christmas, after worship at First Trinity. Through this program, you can honor that special someone on your holiday gift list, and at the same time support organizations that are making a difference in the DC area.
Also, if you missed our gift fair or are looking for more fabulous fair trade items, you can browse on your computer for gifts that make a difference -- handcrafts from artisans around the world; Christmas cards that help combat hunger; and fair trade coffee, teas, and chocolates that bring a living wage to the farmers who produce them. “We can rebuild our homes with orders for our crafts,” says Jean-Claude Dumas, a carver in Haiti. He and other river stone carvers live in Léogâne, in an area devastated by the earthquake.
Jean-Claude works with Comité Artisanal Haitïen, a 30+ year SERRV partner in Haiti that connects 2,000 individual
artisans to markets for their crafts.
Since the earthquake hit Haiti in January 2010, artisans use the sales of their crafts to rebuild not just their homes and workshops, but their lives.
You can support artisans like Jean-Claude through purchasing beautiful gift items provided by the Lutheran World Relief/SERRV handcraft project.
Support farmers by purchasing coffee, tea, and cocoa through the LWR Coffee Project; and LWR/SERRV Divine Chocolate.
Support Bread for the World by purchasing Christmas cards.
Purchase Gifts of Hope to honor that special someone.
